Bolgar Islamic Academy was inaugurated on September 4, 2017 in Tatarstan with the participation of representatives of Russian clergy and numerous guests, including the plenipotentiary of the President of Russian Federation in Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich, head of Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Igor Barinov, President of Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and State Counselor of Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev.
The Academy was founded upon the initiative of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russian Federation, Central Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia and Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan. The creation of the academy was supported by the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. President of the Republic of Tatarstan signed a decree on the establishment of Bolgar Islamic Academy in November 2015. The main purpose of its creation is to revive the national Islamic theological school.
The complex of Bolgar Islamic Academy was built in a year. In August 2017, the academy received a license to provide educational services. Enrollment was carried out for doctoral and master’s programs in specialties “Islamic law” and “Islamic thought and doctrine”. Prerequisites for admission are higher education (bachelor’s degree) and knowledge of Arabic language. Education is free.
The Academy is the result of systematic purposeful work to complete the formation of a three-level system of Islamic education, which allows training scientists-theologians and interpreters of Islam. The task of the Academy is to create an all-Russian Muslim theological platform for interaction between local Muslim organizations and the development of common approaches to the interpretation of sacred texts and the organization of life of Russian Muslims.
